Every $10 donation will go directly to support a student who is unable to afford to purchase a book at the annual book fair. The annual book faire raises funds for the Newport Heights Elementary library. (In the event that more donations are given than there are students in need, the remaining money will go to the NHE library budget). Thank you for gifting the love of reading to our NHE students.

Each year, PTA funds teacher grants for innovative programs that go beyond the normal classroom curriculum. Teachers apply for grants in the fall, and the PTA Board awards the funds in December.

While fundraising is a definite benefit to holding a Book Fair (NHE Library receives a percentage of all Fair sales), so is uniting kids with literature and bringing the community together in honor of that mission. Fairs also provide you with the opportunity to engage in reading with your kids and tune in to their passions.

Field Day is a fun way for our children to let loose at the end of the school year. In collaboration with staff and parents, the PTA organizes an event with over 20 fun activities, including multiple water stations, sack races, face painting, and much more! This event provides a unique time for our children to engage in fun outdoor activities with their fellow students shortly before summer break.

Seattle Audubon’s Finding Urban Nature (FUN) is an environmental education program for schools students. It introduces 3rd and 4th graders to the natural world in their own schoolyard habitats.

Volunteers assist with helping students locate and check out materials, shelving books, and light cleaning to keep the library in tip top shape.
Read-a-Thon

The Read-a-thon is a fun PTA program that promotes literacy and creates good reading habits. Students have the option of gathering sponsors to make pledges for their reading time or for a flat donation. Any amount raised will help and is greatly appreciated! These sponsors are typically family, close friends, neighbors, and parents’ work associates.

This is a National PTA arts competition program. Areas of submission include visual, music, photography, and literature. The theme is determined by the National PTA. Winners from each school compete in the district, district winners go on to the state competition, and state winners go on to national competition.

The Newport Heights PTA Science Fair is held each year in the late winter/spring, and all students are invited to participate by entering a science project. Also, attending the evening event of science displays.

The PTA sponsors or supports a number of events to celebrate our 5th graders as they complete elementary school head to middle school. A group of dedicated parents helps organize, plan, fundraise, and host the 5th grade graduation celebration, and assists students in selecting their legacy gift to the school.

5th Grade Graduation Fundraising

All donations will be used for the graduation ceremony, celebration party, a legacy gift back to the school and a congratulatory gift to each student. The average cost of graduation activities per student is approximately $50.

The general PTA budget does not cover any of these costs. Your donation of ANY amount is welcomed and appreciated. With everyone's help we can make the 5th grade graduation celebration something our kids will remember. Thank you for your support!

The Angel Network at Newport Heights provides a helping hand to NHES families who need extra support with basic necessities. The network is a confidential, behind-the-scenes PTA program made possible by donations from Newport Heights families.

Newport Heights PTA partners with our principal, Jane Kopf-Stover, to offer informal meetings on a regular basis. These gatherings are a good opportunity to hear about the school's teaching and learning goals, to ask questions, and to meet others parents and family members. Dolphin Chat is offered in-person in some months, and virtually in others, to include as many families as possible. Dates and times are posted on the PTA calendar.

Topics are chosen based on your input (e.g. "how can I help my child with homework," "parenting in tween years," etc.) Family University aligns with PTA's goals to promote an inclusive school culture, where all families feel welcome and valued.

Trunk or Treat is a fun, safe, interactive Halloween event! Volunteers gather in the school parking lot, go all out decorating the trunks of their cars, and kids are able to trick or treat by going from trunk to trunk!
Virtual 5K

Virtual 5k event for all families, students, staff and community members to participate in. Anyone and everyone who registers, will have a week to run, walk, roll, hop, skip or jump to the 5k distance. Registrants will pick their own course anywhere they want. The Virtual 5k can be completed all at one time or broken up into multiple days.
